Hello there, it’s been a while 😃. I hope your week has been great?
Today, I would be sharing a spoken word piece I wrote a while back. It gained some attention so I have decided to share a video of me reciting it.
Short note before you watch:
This was written from a point of truth and realising that there is an identity crisis going on. It’s for everyone who has ever nursed the idea that they would have been better off in someone else’s skin, body and voice.
There’s only one of you in the world. Made in Limited Edition. I think that’s worth being proud of.
Enjoy!
You wanted to be Delilah, cause
One effortless sway of your hip will
Make them Esau, offering their birthrights in exchange for the sugar you’d give.
But you are not her.
So you had a conversation with the mirror and consoled yourself saying
“at least, I am the apple hanging loosely from the tree,
Easily touched. Eagerly waiting for the second stare that’d tumble them off hill asking for more,
Like Iya Basira’s rice”
So you recite like a pledge,
“I am not her, but I am the apple hanging loosely from the tree”
Hey,
You are not Delilah,
And you are
NOT
The apple hanging loosely from the tree.
YOU ARE:
Beauty in the apple of the eye of your beholder.
He took a selfie when he was done making you.
And it was good, and you were just enough package of everything nice.
You are a blossoming flower that would leave a lasting fragrance on passersby.
Peace and serenity in the midst of a crazy world.
You are beautiful fabric, lace meant for just royalty.
You are
Eternity wrapped in one kiss blown by Yahweh to the earth.
